I recently got a unknown job as a financial planning assistant. Currently, I'm in college, majoring surrounded by Accounting. The things I deal with at work are Finance related (retirement plans, mutual funds, trusts, annuities, etc)

I own absolutely NO background within this area and would like to know what I can do to revise this stuff. I got a whole bunch of books but I never attain to them or i just skim through it feeling overwhelmed.

Should I pocket a course? I learn SO much better when someone teaches textile to me, esp. difficult material... I would LOVE to become more knowledgeable cuz i really do want to be a costly employee. I'm worried he thinks he may enjoy made a mistake in hiring me

You need to study for your Series 7 and I regard Series 21, probably look at getting your Series 8 as well.

Even though you are majoring in Accounting, Financial Planning is largely a sale role, think stock brokers at Merrill Lynch.

The person that hired you should hold told you this information during your interview. No one learns by osmosis, unless they are seriously psychic, so do a little Internet research, find roughly speaking 3 talking points, then stir to your boss and ask how to reach those goals.

There is no shortcut and paying someone to teach you things within the books you already have will be expensive. Bite the bullet, set aside some time and read some noteworthy sections of those books. If they bore you, get a Financial Planning for dummies book or something similar.

You can also check out your local community college for any related classes. Ask your boss what kind of books, websites or seminars you can check out to gain some knowledge. They will resembling that you asked how you can get ahead!

As you probably already know, you should be studying for the Series 7 licensing exam. After that, the Series 63 and 65 (or combined Series 66 license if your State allows it).

Although these exams will prove you know what types of products to contest clients with, you will not obtain the type of TRUE financial planning knowledge you need for the profession.

Take courses to complete the CFP intellectual requirement. The American College has a program where you can embezzle all 6 courses in more or less 7 months - if you have the time to study! Realistically, allow yourself a year or more. They are a great College and the credits you earn are transferable to your current university.
